Join Our Team

John Rothery (Wholesale) Co. Ltd, trading as Bisley UK, is one of the UK's leading trade-only wholesalers serving the shooting, country sports and outdoor markets.

For over 50 years, we've supplied independent retailers throughout the UK with a broad portfolio of market-leading products, combining our own brands, including Bisley and Parker-Hale, with exclusive UK distribution agreements for internationally recognised manufacturers.

Our range includes air rifles, optics, shooting accessories, gun care products, clothing, footwear, knives, luggage, dog training equipment and outdoor accessories. From our headquarters in Waterlooville, Hampshire, we stock approximately 4,000 product lines and support hundreds of specialist retailers across the UK.

As an independent, owner-managed business, we're proud of our heritage and equally focused on the future. We're investing in our people, strengthening our management team and creating new opportunities to support the next stage of our growth.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Buying Manager to take ownership of one of the most important functions within our business.

Buying has historically been managed jointly by our Managing Director and business owner. As the business continues to develop, we're creating a dedicated Buying Manager role to assume responsibility for purchasing, supplier relationships, stock management and product range development.

Following a structured handover, you'll become a key member of our management team, working closely with senior colleagues to ensure we continue to offer the right products, from the right suppliers, at the right price.

Key Responsibilities

·         Take ownership of the company's buying activities across approximately 4,000 product lines.

·         Develop and maintain strong relationships with UK and international suppliers.

·         Negotiate pricing, trading terms, rebates and supplier agreements.

·         Identify new products and suppliers to enhance our product portfolio.

·         Manage purchasing activity to maintain excellent product availability while optimising stock investment.

·         Analyse sales trends, demand forecasts and stock performance.

·         Monitor supplier performance, lead times and service levels.

·         Work closely with the Sales, Warehouse and Finance teams.

·         Attend supplier meetings, trade exhibitions and industry events.

·         Contribute to pricing decisions, category development and wider commercial initiatives.

·         Continually review buying processes and identify opportunities for improvement.

About You

·         Previous experience as a Buying Manager, Senior Buyer, Buyer or Procurement Manager.

·         Experience negotiating with suppliers and managing commercial relationships.

·         Strong commercial awareness and sound decision-making skills.

·         Experience managing stock investment and purchasing activity.

·         Good analytical skills with experience using purchasing, stock management or ERP systems.

·         Excellent communication and organisational skills.

·         A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to work independently.

·         Experience within wholesale, distribution or retail would be advantageous.

·         Knowledge of the shooting, country sports or outdoor markets would be beneficial but is not essential.

What Success Looks Like

·         Take ownership of the company's buying function.

·         Build trusted relationships with key suppliers and brand partners.

·         Develop a detailed understanding of our products, customers and markets.

·         Maintain excellent stock availability while improving inventory performance.

·         Become a valued member of the management team.
